Classical Guitar

A member of the lute family, the guitar is a fretted musical instrument generally with six steel/nylon strings. Classified as a chordophone which are a class of musical instruments that produce sounds with stretched vibrating strings, a guitar is typically played with both hands by strumming/plucking with either a pick/plectrum or fingers on one hand while simultaneously fretting or pressing the strings against the frets with the fingers of the other hand.

The modern Classical Guitar took its present form when the Spanish guitar maker, Antonio Torres Jurado increased the size of the body, altered its proportions with a wide neck and introduced the revolutionary fan top bracing pattern with nylon strings. This design improved the volume, tone and projection of the instrument. At Trinity Music Academy we teach our students to play the Classical guitar through a systematic step-by-step syllabus designed by the Academy.

We maintain a warm, cordial, conducive, pleasing and exciting learning environment so that our students have a wonderful, rich, progressive, constructive and memorable experience of learning to make music.

Through periodic internal assessment and tests we train our students to prepare different scales, arpeggios, broken chords, sight-reading, improvising and aural tests. We also impart a broad knowledge of Western music, music composers and their works, structure, style and period. Subsequently the students are prepared for the world renowned and globally accredited Certificate Grade examinations conducted by Trinity College, London, UK. These examinations are available from Entry (Initial) grade up to Grade 8 for practical (Classical & Jazz/ Rock and Pop) as well as Music Theory. .
